Celebrity Doppelgangers: James K. Polk and Eric Roberts

Polk-RobertsThese photographs show two southern gentlemen–one with a Scottish and Irish ancestry, the second whose lineage is questionable.

James Knox Polk, son of Samuel & Jane (Knox) Polk, was born on 2 November 1795 in what is now Pineville, North Carolina in Mecklenburg County, just outside Charlotte. His father was of Scots-Irish descent, and his mother was a descendants of a brother of the Scottish religious reformer John Knox.  He was the 11th President of the United States.  James K. Polk died 15 June 1849

Eric Anthony Roberts, son of Walter Grady & Betty Lou (Motes) Roberts, was born 18 April 1956 in Biloxi, Mississippi.  He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Eric began his acting career at age 5 in a local theater company called the “Actors and Writers Workshop”, founded by his late father, Walter Roberts.  Eric is the older brother of actress Julia Roberts.  According to an article written by Megan Smolenyak (and published in the Huffington Post), like his sister Eric should be “a classic American mutt….father’s side is mostly Southern of British Isles stock…. roots on this half of…family tree extend back deeply enough that it would take extensive research to nail down the specifics, but the surnames suggest a mix of Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh. By contrast….mother’s side crosses the pond more quickly back to Germany and Scandinavia. The article goes on to state that the Robert’s line may not actually be Roberts!
